Is professional soccer finally becoming a popular sport in theU.S.?

The rising popularity among Americans of the world's No. 1 sportseems to be driven primarily by young adults who were reared by theso-called soccer moms of the 1980s and 1990s.

“We are creating generational fans that are growing up with usfor the first time,” said Tim Hinchey, president of the MajorLeague Soccer team, the Colorado Rapids. “When you look at thegrass roots participation of all of the boys and girls playingsoccer, the average age of Major League Soccer fans, (34), the new($720 million) MLS television deals with ESPN, FOX and Univision,we are the sport to drive with now.”
