The $2 billion SAFE Credit Union in North Highlands, Calif., invested about $10,000 this summer and got the help of some partner vendors as they re-did the credit union branch and school store at Rio Linda Senior High School in Sacramento, Calif.
A snack shop shares space with the student-run branch and a school supply business that includes a silk screen operation emblazons the school's knight mascot insignia on shirts, caps, water bottles and all sorts of everyday items for students, along with custom-designed banners for local business customers.
The credit union's relationship with the school began nine years ago with an ATM, still there, that dispenses cash in $5 increments. The campus branch now averages 110 new student accounts a year and last year oversaw $55,000 in deposits, SAFE CU said.
