Steven Van Beek has left NAFCU to join the law practice of Howard & Howard at the firm's office in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak, Mich., according to an Oct. 2 release. He had been named NAFCU's vice president of regulatory compliance this summer.

In the release, Howard & Howard lauded Van Beek's extensive knowledge about CFPB and NCUA regulations and underlying laws and his prominence as a frequent speaker at industry events. He is also well known as the author of NAFCU's Compliance Blog. At NAFCU, he was responsible for all aspects of NAFCU's compliance assistance program and compliance-related products and services.

At Howard & Howard, Van Beek will join Michael Bell, a business law attorney who has counseled credit unions in their groundbreaking acquisition of banks.
