Local institutions in the community for decades – a drug store and theater that features family friendly movies – were the latest to be cash mobbed by ORNL Federal Credit Union.

The $1.5 billion credit union in Oak Ridge, Tenn., said on Sept. 5, it debuted its first “double feature” through its Small Business Counts Cash Mob program at Hoskins Drug Store and the Ritz Movie Theater in Clinton, Tenn.

The first 30 people at each event received a free $20 gift card courtesy of the credit union, according to ORNL. Approximately 70 people attended the Hoskins cash mob and 40 people came out for the Ritz Theater cash mob.

Since 1930, Hoskins has been an institution in the Clinton community and a testament to small business, with three generations of the Hoskins family being involved, ORNL said.

The store features a full-service pharmacy, home medical supplies and equipment, hot plate lunches, an authentic soda fountain, home décor and a gift department with signature lines such as Match Pewter, Vera Bradley, Mark Roberts Fairies and Churchill Weavers, the credit union said.

Located directly beside Hoskins is the Ritz Theatre, which has been serving the Clinton community with featured movies and live performances dating back to 1945, according to ORNL.

Owners Dean and Jane Brock have been involved since 1995 and were essential in having the theatre refurbished, remodeled and reopened to the public in 2000, according to the credit union. The Ritz said it has one show time each night and features only the latest family friendly releases for $5 per ticket.

Beginning in July, ORNL began promoting and supporting two East Tennessee businesses each month in the 16 counties served by the credit union through its Small Business Counts Cash Mob program.
