Catholic Federal Credit Union, Saginaw, Mich., recently awarded $123,000 to 295 students with its Msgr. Forbes Scholarship Fund. The college scholarships are open to members of the credit union who meet the criteria based on financial need, community involvement, educational and occupational goals, grade point average and other requirements.  The scholarship program, which originated in 1982, was inspired to honor the legacy of the late Msgr. Eugene A. Forbes whose dedication and commitment to encouraging the pursuit of higher education, coupled with the credit union's philosophy of 'people helping people', continues to be an integral part of Catholic Federal Credit Union. Since 1982, the Msgr. Forbes Scholarship Committee has awarded more than $1.3 million dollars and has given out over 2,800 scholarships to students who want to begin or continue their education.

Consumers Credit Union, Kalamazoo, Mich., announced the winners of its annual Dollars for Scholars Scholarship Program. This year, Consumers is awarding 20 graduating seniors scholarships of $500 along with an iPad. Scholarship winners are not only exemplary students, they are also excellent citizens in our community. Each applicant is evaluated with equal emphasis on academic achievement, community service, essay content and letters of recommendation. Consumers has been helping student members achieve their dreams of attending college for over 20 years. More than 70 scholarships have been awarded since the program's inception.

Fort Campbell Federal ­Credit Union, Clarksville, Tenn., has awarded six $2,000 scholarships. The Fort Campbell Federal Credit Union Scholarship Program was established to help student members pursue a post-secondary education toward an undergraduate or associates degree or trade certification. This year's winners were David Hunt from Rossview High School, who will be attending the Colorado School of Mines; Taylor Martell from Rossview High School, who will be attending the University of Alabama–Tuscaloosa; Rachael Sanders from Clarksville High School, who will be attending Austin Peay State University; Emily Jean Stinnet from Northeast High School, who will be attending the University of Pennsylvania; Mackenzie Wyatt from Christian County High School, who will be attending the University of Kentucky; and Tara Moore from Hopkinsville High School, who has received several letters of acceptance.

Gateway Metro Federal ­Credit Union, St. Louis, awarded four ­local high school seniors with $1,000 Judith A. Lowe Memorial Scholarships at the credit union's annual meeting. Kassidy Deutschmann, Desoto Dickson Jr., Sarah Kester, and Cullin Tripp were chosen based on their high school accomplishments, volunteer activities and their plan for using financial knowledge to make their future brighter. Applicants also turned in recommendation letters and an essay on the importance of financial education. The credit union has awarded $25,000 in scholarships to high school seniors since the program began six years ago.

Greater Texas Federal Credit Union, Bastrop, Texas, announced that graduating Seniors from Bastrop, Cedar Creek, Elgin and Smithville High School were awarded their 2012 B.E.S.T. The scholarship recipients received $500 each to go towards furthering their education and their college tuition. The winning students were Amanda Muehr, Bastrop High School; Jacob Rojas, Cedar Creek High School, Madison Kirk, Elgin High School; and Trina Deyo, Smithville High School. Bastrop, Cedar Creek, Elgin and Smithville seniors submitted applications at last year's 2012 B.E.S.T. (Bastrop, Elgin, Smithville, Texas) College Night, underwritten and sponsored by GTFCU and held in Bastrop. The scholarship winners were chosen through a panel of judges and credit union representatives.

Peach State Federal Credit Union, Lawrenceville, Ga.,  announced the winners of its scholarship program, designed to honor the credit union's founders as well as past and present board members and employees.  Scholarships were also awarded in honor of the lifetime achievements of several notable school system and community leaders.  This year, Peach State awarded $97,000 in scholarships and educational grants.   The following is a list of the scholarships that were awarded. Sixteen $2,000 Career Advancement Scholarships were awarded to members to assist in their continuing education in honor of the credit union's founders. Legacy Scholarships were awarded to nine high school seniors who will be attending college to pursue a degree in education and plan to return to Georgia to teach.  These $2,500 scholarships were given in honor of past and present board members and employees who have served Peach State for 20 years or more. Five $2,500 scholarships were awarded in honor of the lifetime achievements of school system leaders. Two $2,500 scholarships were awarded on the basis of financial need, academic credentials, and a demonstrated commitment to community service. Ten $1,000 in scholarships was underwritten at both Georgia Gwinnett College and the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation; and $5,000 was underwritten at Gwinnett Technical College.

Pelican State Credit Union, ­Baton Rouge, La. granted $500 scholarship awards to 12 college-bound members in its branch communities across the state. Pelican's scholarship program was founded six years ago under the leadership of Jeffrey K. Conrad, CEO/president. The winners were chosen to receive scholarship awards stood out among their peers as future leaders of our communities,  said Conrad. Each year, recipients are chosen by a democratic committee made up of Pelican employees who volunteer their time. Applicants are scored anonymously based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, leadership, community service and letters of recommendation. The 2013 recipients were Aisha Cook, Kentwood Magnet High School; Alix Tromblay, Opelousas Catholic High School; Allison Mueller, Alfred M. Barbe High School; Angelique Burrell, Richwood High School; Austin Aucoin, St. Michael the Archangel High School; Katherine Mashburn, Tioga High School; Laekyn Tomlinson, Zachary High School; Luther Pringle, Doyle High School; Marcus Harris, East Feliciana High School; Maresa Watson, Scotlandville Magnet High School; Passion Leach, Peabody Magnet High School; and Savion Brown, Fair Park High School

United SA Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, has awarded a total of $2,000 in scholarships to four high school seniors. The winners were Tatiana Bujnoch from Boerne High School, Kevin Coleman from Johnson High School, Jared Garza from Harlandale High School and Elizabeth Godfrey from Health Careers High School. The winners were cited as outstanding scholars and  well-rounded high achievers. This is the seventh year that United SA has offered a scholarship program. Students are chosen based on academics, leadership, community service and personal recommendations.
