The $153 million Premier Federal Credit Union had a very special guest at its 50th anniversary celebration at its Greensboro, N.C., headquarters.

Board member Robert Scruggs, a signer of the credit union's original charter in 1963, was on hand to see the credit union's new historical display dedicated to him and his 50 years of service as a volunteer to the 23,700-member credit union.

“We can always count on Bob to provide us with guidance and support and to do what is right for our members. He exemplifies the concept of People Helping People,” said Lori Thompson, Premier FCU's president/CEO.

“Bob have given his time, talent and energy, selflessly over the years. He truly cares about the credit union and the members and staff,” added board Chairman Dennie Smith. “He is most deserving of this dedication as he has played an essential role in the credit union since the beginning.”

John Radebaugh, president/CEO of the North Carolina Credit Union League, was on hand for the June 17 celebration and presented a plaque of recognition to Premier FCU and Thompson. The gathering also was attended by members, business partners and credit union industry representatives.

Premier FCU was chartered in September 1963 as Cone Mills Greensboro FCU and became Premier FCU with an expanded field of membership in 1989. It now serves more than 400 companies, Thompson said, with seven branches in North Carolina and one in South Carolina.

“We are very proud to be celebrating 50 years of serving our members,” Thompson said. “While our business looks much different than it did 50 years ago, we still operate under the same guiding principles and cooperative spirit.”
