Former CUNA executive Chris Johnson will become president/CEO of the Idaho Credit Union league on June 3, the league said Tuesday.

Johnson will succeed Alan Cameron, who is retiring on June 3, the league said.

Johnson was vice president of state governmental affairs at CUNA from 2006 through 2010 and prior to that was managing associate general counsel for Freddie Mac. He most recently was a consultant with The Collingwood Group in Washington, D.C., working with compliance consulting and mortgage purchase and servicing clients.

“I and the entire board are confident that Chris Johnson has the talent, skill and experience to build upon the foundation of service excellence the league has established under the leadership of Alan Cameron and to lead us into the future,” said the league's chair, Brent Neibaur, CEO of the $108 million Advantage Plus FCU in Pocatello, Idaho.

Johnson said, “I am a strongly committed advocate for credit unions. The Idaho Credit Union League CEO position provides an attractive opportunity to support and advance the credit union movement in the Gem State. I have a strong attachment to Idaho, based upon bonds of friendship and an affinity for its culture, history, and scenic beauty.”

Johnson is a graduate of Brigham Young University and of the University of Utah Law School. Idaho's 56 credit unions represent more than 620,000 members.
