One change this year was giving visitors the opportunity to vote for their favorites by texting.

The $1.5 billion, 135,700-member Genisys Credit Union recently sponsored the 31st annual Plymouth Ice Festival in Kellogg Park in the Detroit suburb of Plymouth. The individual and team events drew talent from a number of local schools, including Henry Ford Community College, Washtenaw Community College, Oakland Community College, Artists Institute of Michigan, University of Michigan and Macomb Community College.

“The student competition is a wonderful tradition that students always look forward to,” said Martin Pawlusiak, the festival manager. “So many professional carvers got their start at the Plymouth Ice Festival over the years – including three world champion carvers. It provides a great opportunity for students to develop and learn the art and skill of ice carving.”
