As part of its ongoing efforts to support an orphanage in Kenya, the American Heritage Federal Credit Union collected more than 520 pairs of flip flops donated by employees and board members of the $1.2 billion American Heritage FCU in Philadelphia.
The foot protectors will be sent to the Busia Compassionate Centre in rural western Kenya. The orphanage is home to 89 children, many of whom have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS, the credit union said.
A committee formed in February is continuing to raise funds to help build a new facility at the orphanage to provide clean water, electricity and sleeping space for the children.
The $850 million Philadelphia FCU also is helping with the effort, American Heritage said.
