Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.), who made controversial statements regarding rape and pregnancy Sunday, said Tuesday he's not withdrawing from the Show-Me State's senate race against incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill.

However, should Akin change his mind or eventually lose the election to McCaskill, credit unions would lose a supporter on Capitol Hill.

Akin, who was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2001, signed on as a co-sponsor of CURIA in April 2008. He also has been a supporter of credit union tax-exempt status, at one time telling the House Ways and Means Chairman that “a tax on credit unions would be a tax on consumers.”
