The We Promise Foundation, a charitable arm of the $2 billion Chartway Federal Credit Union in Virginia Beach, Va., raised $7.068 in its recent third annual celebrity handbag auction. Using eBay's charity auction site, 43 items were sold, including handbags donated by actresses Melanie Griffith and Eva Longoria, a guitar signed by country music star Taylor Swift and a pair of game cleats worn by soccer star Landon Donovan.
“We are grateful for the support of 43 generous celebrities and design houses, and for the enthusiasm of our bidders,” said John Blum, Chairman of the We Promise Foundation, which said it has raised nearly $4 million since 1999 to make dreams come true for children struggling with life-threatening or chronic illnesses.
Here are a few more contributions:
Modern Family's sitcom star Julie Bowen donated her red-pebbled leather Prada handbag from her personal collection, valued at $500.
Soccer star Landon Donovan donated a pair of custom-made, game-worn cleats.
Los Angeles Lakers Executive Vice President Jeanie Buss donated her black patent leather Versace handbag valued at $950.
