A pair of accomplished Michigan State University students were looking good after winning the Grad Makeover Contest at the Michigan State University Federal Credit Union.

Personal essays, photographs and lists of accomplishments and community involvement were used in the judging, the $2.2 billion MSUFCU said.

Rex Manning and Brittiany Romero, both spring graduates at the East Lansing school, received new business attire, Spartan jewelry and salon services from local businesses as well as a class ring, graduation announcement and a $500 cash prize.

Manning earned his bachelor's degree in political theory and finished his studies in three years while coaching Frankenmuth's junior varsity football team and founding the nonprofit organization Soul Achievement.

Romero earned her bachelor's degree in social relations and policy, specializing in American Indian Studies, and served founding president of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, organizing events for a charitable organizations including the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Lansing, and completing her undergraduate studies as a new mom.
