The Mortgage Bankers Association announced Wednesday thatPresident/CEO David Stevens will be leaving the organization effective June30 to take a position as president of SunTrust Mortgage.

Atlanta-based SunTrust Bank is a long-standing and active member of the MBA,according to the association’s release.

“Dave has been an exceptional leader for MBA,” said MBA ChairmanMichael Young. “Although we are sorry to see him leave sosoon, he leaves us well-positioned for the future. Davedelivered on his pledge to enhance MBA’s position as the industry’sleading voice in advocacy, policy, education and research and hasdeveloped a dynamic infrastructure for addressing memberneeds.

“His insights and leadership have demonstrated the importance ofhaving one large platform where the entire industry can cometogether in an effort to provide a common voice on the criticalissues of the day.” Young said. “The MBA, its leadership andmembers remain steadfast in our focus to bring solutions that willbenefit the entire housing market, borrowers and lendersalike.”

Stevens was hired in May 2011 after leaving his position asAssistant Secretary for Housing and Commissioner of the FederalHousing Administration at the U.S. Department of Housing and UrbanDevelopment.

Prior to HUD, Stevens held senior executive positions in thereal estate and mortgage finance sectors.

Young announced that the MBA’s chief of staff and senior vicepresident, Marcia M. Davies, will be the interim head of theassociation. A search for a permanent replacement isunder way.
