Funeral services will be held Saturday in Texarkana, Texas, forJoe Glenn Thornton, a former president/CEO of Texar FCU and a pastdirector of CUNA who died Tuesday.

Well known for his service on numerous industry boards includingSouthwest Corporate FCU and the National Association of CreditUnion Supervisors, Thornton, 76, had served for six years as adirector of the Texas Credit Union Commission appointed by formerGov. Bill Clements.

He also served as a director of the Texas Credit Union League,including as an officer and a member of the executive and auditcommittees.

|

A certified audit manager at Tenneco Inc., he previously wasassistant treasurer and a director of Tenneco FCU in Houston.

Thornton was CEO of Teachers Credit Union (now Texar) inTexarkana for 18 years and also had been a director of Town NorthBank and of the league's Wright-Patman Chapter.

He is survived by his wife, two children and four grandchildren.Saturday services will be held in Texarkana at Williams MemorialUnited Methodist Church.
