LANCO Federal Credit Union, Lancaster, Pa., announced that Freeman Chakara has been appointed to its board of directors. Chakara is a neuropsychologist and founder of Providence Behavioral Health. In addition, Chakara teaches graduate and undergraduate courses related to psychological assessment at Lancaster Bible College. Chakara completed his graduate studies at Widener University Clinical Psychology with emphasis in neuropsychology and school psychology. Chakara has been a LANCO member for over 10 years.

Golden 1 Credit Union, Sacramento, Calif., announced that Tamara Ferrin has been named senior vice president and chief financial officer. Ferrin previously held the position of vice president and controller for the $7.5 billion credit union. Ferrin has more than 15 years of financial management experience at several credit unions. She holds a bachelor's degree in finance and management from Woodbury University in Burbank.
UNCLE Credit Union, Livermore, Calif., named Karen Introcaso as the organization's new vice president of lending. Introcaso brings with her 30 years of experience in the financial banking and credit union industry. She most recently served as the chief operating officer/chief lending officer at Spectrum Federal Credit Union, located in San Francisco, where she was responsible for all lending, operations and business development and participated in the development of long-term strategies and short-term annual plans, goals and budgets during her tenure. Prior to this, Introcaso spent her career in various leadership roles, such as vice president operations, compliance and security, senior vice president/branch administrator, vice president/branch manager, and director of security.
Utah First Federal Credit Union, Salt Lake City, announced that David A. Pendleton, Ted Boyer and Ralph Siebert have been elected to board of director positions. Pendleton has 19 years of credit union industry experience and brings expertise in technology used to improve delivery of products and services to credit union members. Boyer has served as agency head for the Utah Real Estate Division, the Utah Department of Commerce and currently serves as the chairman of the Utah Public Service Commission. Siebert has served on the advertising council of Utah Tires Association, Murray City Public Power Board and as the president of two local property owners' associations.

Catholic Federal Credit Union, Saginaw, Mich., appointed Ken Groya to its supervisory committee. Groya is the director for the Catholic Cemetries, Diocese of Saginaw. He is currently the president of the Michigan Cemetery Association. In addition to Groya, Joseph DeFrancesco, Carl Jaenicke, Janet Lichon, José Salinas and Lee R. Scheib serve on the credit union's supervisory committee.
Heritage Federal Credit Union, Newburgh, Ind., announced that Barbara Winstead, vice president of human resources and employee development, recently graduated from the ProCon Leadership Institute presented by the ProCon Group Ltd. The ProCon Group specializes in helping credit unions uncover strategic opportunities, build more effective board governance and strengthen their management teams. The goal of the institute is to equip senior managers with the leadership skills they will need to help their credit unions succeed. Winstead's graduation from the ProCon Leadership Institute means she has completed the three-part course that consisted of three four-day sessions throughout 2011 and early 2012. These sessions consisted of seminars by industry professionals as well as team exercises with other industry leaders. They covered skills such as understanding organizational vision and values, developing strategic vision, overcoming organizational barriers, conducting business ethically and measuring progress toward organizational goals. Course work included assignments between the sessions.
Mazuma Credit Union, Kansas City, Mo., announced the appointment of Marie Shrake as chief financial officer. Shrake brings with her 25 years of banking experience and will oversee the credit union's financial affairs and accounting unit. Prior to Mazuma, she held both chief financial officer and chief operating officer positions at First Financial Credit Union in Albuquerque, N.M. Shrake earned a bachelor of business administration and accounting from the University of New Mexico, and is also a certified public accountant.

Security Service Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, announced the promotion of Rick Ramirez to assistant vice president of operational accounting. Ramirez has more than 24 years of experience and previously served as the accounting manager for the credit union. In his new role, he will be responsible for overseeing departmental activities including wire transfers, accounts payable, general ledger reconciliations as well as other accounting matters related to mergers and acquisitions. Ramirez is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio where he earned two bachelor's degrees in business administration in accounting and another in finance. Since 2007, he has been an active participant in the Business Careers High School Mentorship Program and was named Mentor of the Year in 2010.

CUNA Mutual Group, Madison, Wis., promoted Alastair Shore to executive vice president/chief financial officer. He replaced the retiring Jerry Pavelich. Shore will lead the core financial services of the company, which include financial planning, actuarial, capital planning, controller, treasury and expense management. He joined CUNA Mutual Group in 2006 and most recently served as chief risk officer/chief actuary. In those capacities, he was responsible for establishing a framework for the management of risk.
