Ten years after its parent company, WESCO Net is going through a name change.

The network solutions integrator and division of CU*Answers in Grand Rapids, Mich., is being rebranded as CU*Answers Network Services.

The change is to “better reflect the needs of clients and changing competitive landscape and further distance itself from the old 'WESCO' brand that CU*Answers previously operated under,” the CUSO said.

The core processor changed its name from WESCO to CU*Answers in 2002, the same year that WESCO Net began the business of helping credit unions transition from terminals to PCs.

While keeping the WESCO name for marketplace recognition, the division expanded services to include managed security and storage, backup and disaster recovery, IP telephony, managed hosting and virtual desktop and cloud services to more than 150 credit unions in 26 states, CU*Answers said.

“We are light years beyond where we started 10 years ago in capabilities and capacity to execute complex long-term projects. The WESCO Net brand at times had the unintended consequence of putting us in a 'capabilities box' and did not recognize that we are part of an organization nearly 200 strong,” said David Wordhouse, vice president of network technologies at CU*Answers Network Technologies.
