London-based technology vendor Serverside Group has granted aU.S. card customization patent license to United Solutions Company,dismissing the Tallahassee, Fla., CUSO from a group of defendantsin a lawsuit the company filed in June, Serverside Groupannounced.

Serverside Group, a provider of design, marketing and printingservices for the international card payment industry, said thelicense covers all card customization programs for USC's currentand future credit union customers.

USC, a CUSO owned by six North Florida credit unions,offers avariety of programs including picture cards to its more than 85credit union customers.

“We are delighted to have brought this matter to a close and,equally importantly, that we are now able to offer our customersreassurance that they are dealing with a card customizationprovider that has the necessary rights to offer the service,” USCPresident/CEO Jim Giacobbe said.

The June patent infringement suit targeted 15 parties including USC, PSCU FinancialServices, The Members Group and three credit unions. ServersideGroup alleged the defendants “infringed upon U.S. patent right as to financialtransaction card customization technology.”

“When we started Serverside Group and created the digital cardcustomization market, we made the protection of our intellectualproperty one of our highest priorities and invested significantresources to this end,” Serverside Group President Adam Elgarsaid.

“We are delighted that United Solutions Company hasrecognized our innovation in this space and will support it in anyway we can in the future,” Elgar said.
