Melia Keller, president/CEO at Mid Cities Credit Union inCompton, Calif., recently donated her long locks to Locks of Love,the organization that provides hairpieces to financiallydisadvantaged children in the United States and Canada sufferingfrom long-term hair loss. Most of the children helped havelost their hair due to a condition called alopecia areata, whichhas no known cause or cure.

The prostheses Locks of Love provides helps to restore theirself-esteem and confidence, enabling them to face the world andtheir peers. Keller also donated her hair in 2004 after a visit toChildren's Hospital Los Angeles.

“This was an excellent exercise in reminding me of what is trulyimportant in life—the health and well being of our loved ones,”Keller said. “This time around I have two children of my own. Isimply can't imagine one of them having to deal with cancer at sucha young age. I hope others are inspired to contribute in some way.”
