The African-American Credit Union Coalition recently appointed Lynette Smith to its board filling a vacancy created through the retirement of one the association's longtime members.
Smith, president/CEO of Washington Gas Light Federal Credit Union in Springfield, Va., will replace Lynda McDaniel, who retired as vice president of membership from Navy Federal Credit Union. McDaniel served on AACUC's board for five years.
Smith has been in the credit union industry for more than 21 years with a career that includes several senior positions at the Treasury Department Federal Credit Union, according to the AACUC. NAFCU awarded Smith with its Paul Revere award in 2008 for starting an in-house financial literacy program and for her efforts on Capitol Hill where she educated Congress on the credit union industry. In 2009 Smith was selected to be a member of the Virginia Credit Union League's government affairs committee.
