The NCUA and other federal financial regulators announced they expect the registration period for mortgage originators to start around Jan. 31 and end around July 29.

The Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008, known as the SAFE Act, requires employees of federally related institutions who originate mortgage loans to be registered with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry.

The NCUA and other regulators will publish a notice on their websites confirming the dates.
