Advancial Federal Credit Union, Lafayette, La., recently partnered with Ascension Episcopal School to educate and financially serve students, parents and staff through the CU@School program. The partnership kicked off this week with Advancial visiting each of the school's campuses. Advancial representatives introduced the program, answered the students' questions about opening accounts and described how a credit union works.
Apple Federal Credit Union, Fairfax. Va., has begun this year's JA Finance Park program. The program delivers hands-on educational experience to more than 14,000 middle school students each year. Students begin with six weeks of classroom education and the program culminates with a day at the park, where students participate in a reality-based decision making process that addresses aspects of family budgeting.
Andrews Federal Credit Union, Suitland, Md., served as a major sponsor for the third annual "McGuire Mud Run." The run serves to foster the interaction between the base and surrounding communities. Over 3,000 runners from the US and Canada ran a 6.2-mile muddy obstacle course. Andrews Federal provided water bottles, US flags, and other gifts to participants.

Each of its five branches hosted a 60th celebration day, featuring special giveaways, free refreshments, the opportunity to sign up for the new kids and teens banking programs, free insurance advice and quotes and the chance to win $200 with the opening of a new checking account.
Credit Union of Georgia, Atlanta, participated in the teacher for a day program at A.L. Burruss Elementary School in Marietta, Ga. Business Development Director Rebecca Cooper spent the day alongside Teacher of the Year Melissa Umphlett, where she was able to assist with three of her ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) and EIP (Early Intervention Program) classes. Rebecca also spent time watching 4th graders rehearse for their upcoming assembly on the importance of eating five vegetables a day. As an educator's credit union, Credit Union of Georgia said it was grateful for the opportunity to support the school.
Genisys Credit Union, Auburn Hills, Mich., sponsored the 14th annual "Parade of Stars Bluegrass Festival" recently. The event, held at Civic Center Park, attracted hundreds of music lovers, who listened to the tunes of the Cats and the Fiddler, Darren Beachley & Legends of the Potomac, Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike and Special Consensus. Several Genisys volunteers participated by greeting and ushering guests to their seats.
GFA Federal Credit Union, Gardner, Mass., recently held member appreciation events in each of its eight branches. As part of the celebration, members of the management team visited each branch location to serve ice cream sundaes and personally thank visiting members. This year's event also included a series of no-cost financial education seminars, with topics including budgeting, using credit wisely and understanding your credit score. GFA's award-winning financial education program helps improve communities by further developing consumers' financial management skills.
SAFE Credit Union, Sacramento, Calif., celebrated its heritage by participating in the California Capitol Airshow. Each year, the event brings tens of thousands of visitors the thrill of aerial acrobatics and the rich history of vintage aeronautics. SAFE's booth included a custom barnstorming banner and a 1940 PT-17 Steadman biplane, was voted "Best Display for the 2010 Airshow." In addition to games and prizes, SAFE representatives treated visitors with a chance to sit in the cockpit of an F-8 fighter plane and preserve the memory with a free commemorative photo.
Shell Federal Credit Union, Pasadena, Texas, announced that its Shell Federal Credit Union "FCU Team" (Furthering Community Unity) attended the dedication ceremony of the third house completed since the credit union partnered with Pasadena Habitat for Humanity. The Ann Street residence was officially presented to the Duran family. In attendance were representatives from Habitat for Humanity, FCU team members and family and friends of the homeowners. Although not the only company represented, 40 Shell FCU employee and member volunteers dedicated many Saturdays to help build the house and the house next door.
UMassFive College Federal Credit Union, Hadley, Mass., offered a free workshop, "Paying for College 101," last month at its Hadley branch. This workshop covered student financial aid, including scholarships, grants, federal student loans and private student loans, as well as practical advice on the application process.
