A British Columbia credit union has become the 20th Canadian commitment to Fiserv Inc.'s Acumen core processing platform and 24th overall.

The $165 million Nelson and District Credit Union in Nelson said ease of use and references led to its decision and that the new solution will help it better serve the Kootenay Lake community.

The 12,500-member CU said it returned nearly 40% of its net income to local communities last year through its Community Investment Program.

"Our credit union is devoted to the benefit of the communities we serve, and that requires tools that allow us to serve most efficiently," said Doug Stoddart, Nelson and District CU's chief executive officer.

Fiserv debuted the Acumen platform in Canada as an all-new, open platform based on Internet technologies and providing a 360-degree view of member relationships.

Four U.S. credit unions also have signed up to use Acumen.
