CUNA President/CEO Bill Cheney announced today that hisassociation is going to commission a quick external analysis of theindustry's needs and create a committee to formulate additionalproposals.

He told reporters the summit his association sponsored onSaturday in Chicago generated healthy discussions from the 80attendees from throughout the credit union system. He declined todiscuss specific proposals that were discussed but said there isconsensus that solving the problems facing the corporate systemwith a cooperative model that is also a viable business solutionaren't mutually exclusive.

Cheney said the assessment of what credit unions need fromcorporates, especially in the area of payment systems, will be donequickly. He added that the committee to discuss and makerecommendations about solutions will be made up of representativesof a cross section of the industry.
