Sen. Richard Shelby, the top Republican on the Banking Committee, was easily re-elected to a fifth term, the Associated Press projected.
Shelby (R-Ala.) wasn't expected to have tough race. He received $5,000 from CUNA's PAC and $2,500 from NAFCU's PAC.
He hasn't always been an especially strong supporter of credit unions, though he was a strong opponent of the financial overhaul bill passed by Congress, which included a new consumer financial protection agency.
If the Republicans win control of the Senate, Shelby is in line to chair the Banking Committee.
