Deployment of branch image capture solutions continued unabated in the past year, recession or not, according to a new report.

Analysts with Boston-based Celent said there were an estimated 2,300 implementations among American banks and credit unions last year, bringing the total to more than 12,000.

About 80 percent of all financial institutions use branch capture or are planning to, and 97 percent receive electronic images, Celent said, with the "dismantling of paper check processing infrastructure" soon to force the hand of the rest.
