The Republicans will gain 55 seats in the House – recapturing the majority and bring down several key credit union supporters, according to an analysis released today by political scientist Larry Sabato.

Sabato, a professor of government at the University of Virginia, cites Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-S.D.) Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.) as among the likely casualties next Tuesday. Both of those contests are designated "leaning Republican".

If Sabato's predictions for next Tuesday's elections come true, the House will have 232 Republicans and 203 Republicans.
