The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday will discuss whether consumers facing foreclosure should have the option of having a mediation hearing.

The session is the latest in the series of congressional reactions to reports of problems with the foreclosure process. All attorneys general are investigating procedures used by mortgage processers.

When Congress returns next month, both the House Financial Services Committee and Senate Banking Committee are scheduled to hold hearings on the issue.
