CUNA's PAC had $270,933 in its coffers as of last week and NAFCU's PAC had $215,631, according to reports they filed this week with the Federal Election Commission.

The reports, which cover activity from Oct. 1 to Oct. 13, showed that CUNA's Credit Union Legislative Action Council raised $60,088 and spent $558,894 on contributions to federal candidates and committees and on independent expenditures. It had $754,960 in its coffers at the beginning of October.

The elections, in which all 435 House seats and 37 of 100 Senate seats will be up, will be held on Nov. 2.

CULAC's contributions included $2,500 to the leadership PAC of House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and $4,500 to the reelection committee of Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii). It also gave $5,000 to the campaign of Ben Quayle, the son of former Vice President Dan Quayle, who is seeking an open House seat in Arizona. CULAC backed and made an independent expenditure on behalf of one of Quayle's primary opponents.

From Oct. 1 to Oct. 13, NAFCU's Political Action Committee raised $4,220 and spent $15,000 on contributions to federal candidates and committees. It had $226,406 in its coffers as of Oct. 1.

The committee also gave $2,500 to Cantor's political action committee. Its other contributions included $2,500 to the leadership PAC of House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and $2,000 to Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.), a strong credit union supporter on the House Financial Services Committee.

Many analysts predict the Republicans will win control of the House as a result of the Nov. 2 elections. If that happens, Boehner is likely to be speaker and Cantor is likely to be majority leader.
