The NCUA is using television, radio and billboards to spread the word about deposit insurance.
The agency today is launching a multimedia ad campaign featuring personal finance expert Suze Orman reminding people that their accounts at credit unions are insured up to $250,000. The ads also refer people to the NCUA website so they can calculate whether their money is fully insured.
As part of the regulatory overhaul bill that Congress passed earlier this year the $250,000 insurance coverage was made permanent for credit unions and banks.
"In a time when personal finance issues are weighing heavily on so many people-- and in a flight to safety, millions of individuals have moved their funds from stocks to savings accounts--we're excited to team with someone as well known and trusted as Suze Orman to spread the word about the safety of credit union accounts," NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz said.
