TMG, a card processing CUSO affiliated with the Iowa CreditUnion League, has announced it is making anti-skimming technologyavailable to its member CUs seeking additional protection for theirATMs.

Skimming is a term that covers a variety of strategies throughwhich thieves attach devices or make material changes to an ATM inorder to acquire card and personal identification numbers.

The CUSO is making a package of anti-skimming measures from ADTAnti-Skim ATM Security Solutions available to member CUs. Thepackage includes technology like surface sensors for the ATM thatcan detect a device put over the ATM's card-entry slot to recordcards numbers as well as an anti-skim jamming device.

When these devices detect abnormalities at an ATM, they cannotify ADT or the credit union.

"Many of our clients operate ATM networks in particularlyhard-hit regions," said Karen Postma, TMG's senior cards riskmanager, referring to the rise in skimming attacks along the Eastand West coasts of the U.S. "TMG will introduce this solution on aproactive basis, allowing our clients access to one of the mosteffective anti-skimming solutions available."
