The Credit Union Association of Oregon said Thursday it expects a sizable crowd to turn out next month for two separate visits by NCUA Chairman Deborah Matz to the state. One of the appearances will be a town hall gathering in Portland, her first town hall session in the Northwest since becoming agency head.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for credit unions in Washington, Oregon and neighboring states to dialog with the chair on many important issues and so we're very excited," said Troy Stang, president/CEO of CUAO.
Matz is scheduled to speak first Oct. 5 at NCUA's town hall meeting to be held in the Lloyd Center Doubletree Hotel in Portland and then on the following day at CUAO's annual convention which winds up on Oct. 8.

"We are excited that Chairman Matz has chosen the Northwest region to meet with credit union leaders from our communities," said Stang. "Credit unions are part of the solution in helping our state, region and country emerge from these difficult economic times."
Topics at both sessions, he said, are expected to cover a wide range including the health of the shared insurance fund, regulatory and examination burdens and comment on recently passed federal regulations.
"Credit union leaders will also express their strong support for expanded opportunities to provide member business loans as well as other issues impacting the financial marketplace," said a CUAO statement.
The Portland Town Hall, said Matz in an NCU release, "will be an ideal opportunity for credit union leaders in Oregon, and across the Northwest, to have a dialogue with NCUA leadership on the major issues of the day," said Chairman Matz. "I am looking forward to hearing from a broad spectrum of the industry-the kind of thoughtful and informed input NCUA receives as Town Hall sessions are essential to the policymaking process."
