The $150 million Mid Missouri Credit Union of Fort Leonard Wood has come up with a new fundraising promotion to support Homes for Our Troops.

The credit union is pairing soldiers with CU executives for a golf tournament.

The HFOT event with 36 teams being formed will be held Sept. 29 on a large course at the military base.

Under the pairing, each team, required to pony up $300 ($100 for single), will play with one soldier from the Army post.

"We see the sacrifices our soldiers make to serve their country everyday at Fort Leonard Wood," said Brent Sadler, chief operating officer of Mid Missouri. "This event gives participants a chance to see and experience a day with a hero while supporting a great cause."

Sadler said he hopes to raise $10,000 from the golf outing for the statewide HFOT campaign. In June the CU's HFOT committee turned over the keys of a specially adapted home in Columbia for Army Sgt. Robert Canine and his family. Canine had lost both legs below the knee in the Iraq war.

Following CUNA's MFOT project at the 2008 presidential conventions, Missouri CUs have been among the most active in conducting myriad fundraising events to build homes for injured vets of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
