The Essex County Prosecutor's Office will have a press conference today at 4:00 p.m. to provide a statement regarding the undercover detective involved in the fatal shooting of Credit Union of Atlanta President/CEO DeFarra Gaymon.

Robert Laurino, acting prosecutor for Essex County, is also scheduled to report on Gaymon's autopsy results, said Katherine Carter, press agent for the prosecutor's office.

Carter also confirmed that the prosecutor will convene a grand jury to conduct an investigation of the shooting. That process has not started yet as the detective just provided his statement yesterday, she added.

"Under attorney general guidelines, all police-involved shootings must be presented to the grand jury," Carter said. "Whenever a police officer shoots someone and someone is killed or is caused serious bodily injury, the local prosecutor cannot say it was justified and drop the case."

Carter said the name of the detective will not be released because he is involved in undercover operations. She did say he is 29 years old and has been with the sheriff's department for eight years.

Carter said Laurino will not take a lot of questions after the press conference which will take place at the Veteran's Courthouse in Newark, N.J. because of the ongoing investigation.
