The Essex County Prosecutor's Office in New Jersey is expecting to learn more details today when it interviews an undercover sheriff's detective that shot and killed Credit Union of Atlanta President/CEO DeFarra Gaymon July 16.

Katherine Carter, press agent for the prosecutor's office, told Credit Union Times that the detective will be asked about details that led to the shooting, which occurred at Branch Brook Park in Newark, N.J. The detective, whose name is not being released, was not injured but was taken to the hospital after the shooting after being shaken up by the incident, Carter said. According to Carter, the detective was called out to the park for an undercover operation after police received complaints about sexual activity. The prosecutor's office does not know what led up to the detective shooting Gaymon and there is no information on whether Gaymon had a gun, Carter said. Although published reports noted Gaymon was shot in the chest, Carter said she could not provide information on the nature of the fatal injury. An autopsy was done and the results are expected to be released today, she said.

Carter could not say if other arrests were made in connection to the shooting or if Gaymon was alone at the time. His pickup truck was found parked by the scene of the shooting and impounded by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. Gaymon was not in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, according to the office.
