San Juan Mountains Credit Union, Lakewood, Colo., joined shared branching through CU Service Network in order to increase location convenience for the credit union's members. All members who are part of the credit union's network may use shared branching locations to conduct transactions such as deposits and withdrawals, fund transfers, loan payments and balance inquiries. The credit union became the 100th member of the shared network.
State Employees Credit Union Foundation, Raleigh, N.C., held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the recent opening of SECU Hospice House of Johnston Health in Smithfield, N.C. The crowd of nearly 500 included Rep. Bob Etheridge and SECU Chairwoman Shirley Bell, who represented the credit union. According to Bell, the Johnston County area was in great need of an organization such as the Hospice House. The new facility, with room for 18 patients, will provide 24-hour medical and nursing care for the elderly and infirm as well as counseling services for the bereaved. The opening of the Hospice was made possible by the donations of more than 1,000 individuals, businesses and towns within Johnston County, N.C., as well as a $1 million contribution from the credit union itself.
Advancial Federal Credit Union, Oklahoma City, recently established a new location on the Chesapeake Energy campus. According to Brent Sheffield, president/CEO of Advancial, the new branch will enable the credit union to better achieve its goal of serving energy companies. Sheffield also said the Chesapeake branch will included new convenience features.

Garden Savings Federal Credit Union, Parsippany, N.J., unveiled a new full service branch in Newark's Ironbound section. The branch's multilingual staff is equipped to provide personal and business services as well as programs dedicated to the improvement of financial literacy in the Newark area, according to President/CEO Lou Vetere.
Elevations Credit Union, Boulder, Colo., vacated its previous facility for a significantly larger Boulder branch. Only a short distance away from the original headquarters, the new facility, located in the Table Mesa Shopping Center, dwarfs the former location by 5,553 square feet. The added space will allow the credit union to provide mortgage and wealth management services within the facility as well as a 24-hour ATM, according to Branch Manager Robert Barr.
Wauna Federal Credit Union, Clatskanie, Ore., announced the addition of the Astoria Safeway branch, the credit union's second full service site. Robert Blumberg, president/CEO of Wauna, said he hopes the new location will allow the credit union to serve the residents of the busy shopping region. The addition, scheduled to begin operating on Aug. 11, will provide the full range of the credit union's services, including a lending center to assist members with loan products. The new branch is a result of a partnership between Wauna FCU and Safeway.
Charter Oak Federal Credit Union, Groton, Conn., in partnership with the town of Killingly, established a student branch at Killingly High School. The credit union's Focused on Finances Program, which promotes financial literacy and provides low-cost deposit products, encourages young students to save for the future, and will be made available to educators and staff as well. Students enrolled in the program will be required to study the National Endowment for Financial Education program book and open an account at the credit union.
Lake Trust Credit Union, Lansing, Mich., began construction of its new LEED-certified branch-a $1.5 million structure located less than a mile away from the credit union's original branch location. The 5,000-square-foot building is expected to open in late 2010 and will expand the credit union's existing 35-county service area.
Connexus Credit Union, Wausau, Wis., held two celebratory events to kick off the opening of its new Bridge Street branch. The celebrations-an "Xtravaganza" and ribbon-cutting ceremony- attracted more than 400 members and potential members, and included informational expos to inform attendees about Connexus services.
Floridacentral Credit Union, Tampa, Fla., broke ground in the heart of downtown Bradenton, marking the outset of the credit union's new full service branch. Floridacentral has hired a team of local contractors and vendors to oversee construction-a $2.5 million project-in order to capitalize on the opportunities the organization can offer the surrounding area. The architecture of the new branch will match the "old Florida" style of the Bradenton area yet seek to maintain the credit union's unique appearance.
Service 1st Federal Credit Union, Danville, Pa., has expanded from its Williamsport branch into Loyalsock Township, celebrating the opening of its brand new network location. The credit union now awaits the completion of its corporate center, slated for a grand opening in October, which is anticipated to require a 30% increase in employment within the credit union (an addition of 20 new positions).
