Steve Solway, an 11th grade high school student and the owner of a clothing line, recently became the first member to open a business account at People's Credit Union.

Solway's company, Shyne Apparel, is a T-shirt company designed to give the youth market a fresh new style, according to the $387 million CU in Middletown, R.I. Solway's most recent creation incorporates a tiger design, and with each T-shirt sold, $2.50 will be donated to the Tiger Wild Life Organization.

The student was also a participant in the Entrepreneurship-360 class as the first runner up at the East Bay Met Center's bi-annual business plan competition securing $200 in funding for the launch of his clothing line. The course is a 60-hour program for students supported by the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship during which students learn about concepts and skills to create and design a business and then as a culminating piece, write a business plan.

“People's Credit Union was thrilled that Steve chose to do business with us,” said Courtney Hunter, member relationship representative. “His commitment to social responsibility and the community is right in line with our credit union values. We look forward to helping Steve's business grow.”
