Meriwest Credit Union, San Jose, Calif., held a jeans day to raise money to support the victims of the Haiti earthquake. The credit union team raised $1,144 for Haiti relief. Employees wore jeans and contributed $5 to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts in Haiti. Several credit union employees gave substantially more than the minimum.

Central Florida Chapter of Credit Unions, Orlando, Fla., partnered with Fairwinds Credit Union, Insight Financial Credit Union, Martin Federal Credit Union and Magnify Credit Union to make a donation of $2,250 in favor of the American Red Cross-Haiti Relief Fund.

GNO Federal Credit Union, Metairie, La., parlayed exhilaration for the home-town team-the New Orleans Saints-and heartfelt concern for the Haitian earthquake victims into an enthusiastic endeavor for both. Employees donating $15 or more to the World Council of Credit Unions Disaster Relief Fund for Haiti had the option of wearing the team colors of black and gold. Branch lobbies were decked out in Saints pendants, gold stars and balloons.

State Employees' Credit Union, Raleigh, N.C., exemplified the giving spirit through its foundation's support of Hospice of Wake County. A $500,000 check was presented to Hospice of Wake County at a Hospice Volunteer Appreciation event. The grant will be used to construct SECU Healing Gardens, a peaceful, reflective area to benefit patients and their families. The grant is a matching gift to Hospice of Wake County "Building Partners in Caring" capital campaign. The newly completed Hospice and Palliative Care Center will serve five North Carolina counties.

GFA Federal Credit Union, Gardner Mass., pledged over $13,600 to the United Way of North Central Massachusetts. The funds were raised through employee contributions as well as a corporate gift. The credit union and its employees stepped up to help fund the United Way's programs.

Advance Financial Federal Credit Union, Gary, Ind., helped raise $156 for the Gary-Merrillville Corps of Salvation Army by selling tags that members and other supporters were able to sign and hang in the credit union's lobby. This is the second straight year the credit union's Gary branch has held the event. The event also raised a lot of awareness about the valuable services provided to area residents by the Salvation Army.

CUNA Mutual Group, Madison, Wis., contributed over $25,000 contributed to the National Credit Union Foundation and state credit union leagues. CUNA's "Sign of Commitment" made nearly 50 stops nationwide resulting in the contribution. The Sign of Commitment encouraged credit union supporters to add their signature on a display board as a public commitment to the credit union movement. CUNA Mutual contributed money for each person who vowed support for credit unions by signing their name. The effort attracted 9,530 signatures, including more than 1,400 CUNA Mutual employees.

DuPont Goodrich Federal Credit Union, Beaumont, Texas held a "DuGood by Giving" promotion, giving back $42,500 to members and local charities. Members who financed a qualifying loan received $250 cash back. Plus, the credit union donated an additional $250 for each loan financed to a local charity of the member's choice. The credit union booked over $4.8 million in loans during the campaign. The board of directors presented over $21,250 to representatives of local charities at a reception.
