In today's Oregon primary, credit unions are coordinating their support for one of the industry's leading "friends," state Sen. Rick Metsger running for State Treasurer on the Democratic ticket.

In a push led by the Credit Union Association of Oregon, eight CUs have posted messages of thanks on their website home pages praising Metsger "for his many years of supporting credit unions in the Oregon legislature" and wishing him luck in his treasurer race.

Metsger, a former Portland news and sports broadcaster, is in a tight race against the incumbent, Ted Wheeler, who was appointed to the job last March following the death of Ben Westlund, who CUAO said also was a long time credit union friend.
