Consumers continue to feel more confident but are still weary.
The Consumer Confidence Index was 57.9 this month, up from March's 52.3, the Conference Board reported today. It's the second consecutive monthly increase and the highest level since September 2008.
The New York City-based research organization's survey of 5,000 families also indicated that the Present Situation Index, which measures consumer assessment of current conditions, rose to 28.6 from 25.2. The Expectations Index was 77.4, compared with 70.4 in March.

In the latest survey, the percentage of consumers describing business conditions as "good" increased to 9.1% from 8.5% in March, while those saying conditions are "bad" decreased to 40.2%, compared with 42.1% last month.
The percentage of those who said jobs are "hard to get" fell to 45% from 46.3%. Those saying jobs are plentiful increased to 4.8% from 4% last month.
