In its first month at the iTunes Store, Meriwest Credit Union's free iTunes mobile banking application has been downloaded more than 1,400 times, the credit union said.

The mobile app provides secure access to bill pay, transaction histories, balances and transfer functions as well as directions to 28,000 surcharge-free ATMs, Meriwest branches and shared branches based on GPS location of the phone.

One-button dialing to the $1.2 billion San Jose, Calif., credit union's member services also is available, as is access to detailed contact information, lost or stolen credit card reporting and calculators.

A BlackBerry app will soon be offered as well to the credit union's 89,000 members.
