Biz Kid$ has a national reach. The show now reaches 99% of public television stations in the country.

Just two years after its launch, Biz Kid$, the youth-focused and credit union-funded financial education show, now blankets the entire U.S. with lessons about financial literacy and entrepreneurship.

The Emmy-winning show, which started filming its fourth season in late January, has been shown on 340 of the country's 343 public television stations, including 74 of the top 75 markets. As a result, Biz Kid$ episodes have been aired more than 70,000 times since the show first reached viewers in January 2008.

"Most shows don't get to this type of air time for many years," said Executive Producer Jamie Hammond. "We are particularly proud that, with the help of America's credit unions, we are producing a show with the ability to reach children and young adults and teach them about financial literacy."

She added that 79% of the stations have continued to broadcast the episodes during the production hiatus, airing repeats throughout late 2009 and early 2010 in anticipation of the new episodes available in April. "This gives credit unions more face time with young adults," noted John Annaloro, president of the Washington Credit Union Foundation. "This is a highly sought-after demographic, who will be the future consumers in the years ahead. Teaching them about the virtues of thrift and entrepreneurship, and linking this message to credit unions, is so powerful for our movement." Each episode of Biz Kid$ comes with teaching materials, lesson plans and activities that meet national standards.

Fundraising efforts are ramping up for the new season with a goal of raising $1.3 million in the credit union community. The production team hopes to get to 65 episodes, or five full seasons, at which time the show can run on a daily basis nationwide. Hammond said this tipping point will lead even more public television stations to pick up the series and air it more often, helping it become the accepted financial education resource. Plans are underway for Biz Kid$ to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on April 28 in celebration of National Financial Literacy Month.
