WASHINGTON – As a lead up to Sunday's 38th Annual Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, Credit Union Miracle Day Chairman Juri Valdov today presented a $923,000 check on behalf of credit unions to the Children's Miracle Network.
"We're in the people business, we're in the people helping people business," he explained at a news conference at Children's National Medical Center. The check he presented was the third largest amount credit unions have contributed since they began sponsoring the event in 2002.
CUNA President/CEO Dan Mica paraphrased a song made famous by Barbara Streisand and noted that "people who care about people are the luckiest people in the world."

NAFCU President/CEO Fred Becker praised the treatment that the infant of his former executive assistant received at the hospital, which is one of the recipients of contributions from the Children's Miracle Network. He also presented a piggy bank filled with coins that were contributed by people giving spare change while passing by the front desk at NAFCU's office.
Before the event, credit union volunteers worked with patients at the hospital in painting ceramic piggy banks.
Valdov, the former president/CEO of Northwest Federal Credit Union, said there will be 15,000 runners in Sunday's event, 7,200 of whom are credit union members. There are 34 credit union teams scheduled to participate.
