In a support the troops fundraiser, which has already brought in $9,500, a group of North Carolina credit union executives and their families will take part in a grueling cross-country bike ride next Saturday put together by a chapter of the North Carolina Credit Union League.
The charity project benefitting "Hope for the Warriors" a Washington and North Carolina group aiding injured Iraq and Afghanistan war vets includes a team of 27 riders many sporting CUNA's now mothballed "Little Guy" blazers who will traverse from Lewisville in three separate routes across the state's Triad Area.
Helping coordinate the "Hope for Warriors" benefit are members of the Northwest Chapter of the league which for weeks have been recruiting CUs across the state to participate by making use of a favored sport to show CUs "want to give back to the men and women who risk their lives to protect this great nation."

Since cycling "has become popular in western North Carolina," the league chapter hoped that would create excitement and "diversify our fundraising efforts," explained Belinda Wilson, chapter president and director of business development at Allegacy FCU of Winston Salem.
Among riders next Saturday will be Madison Heyden, the daughter of Thomas Heyden, a CUNA Mutual account executive stationed in Iraq. Joining her to show support for her dad will be a friend.
The "Hope for the Warriors Bike Tour" will start at the Lewisville Town Square and will feature three separate routes, 24, 35 or 68 miles, with bikers from "Team Little Guy" participating.
