The winter is prime trading season for baseball teams and the NCUA has decided to get into the act as well.

As a way to better spread out the work load, the NCUA shifted California from the purview of Region 5 to Region 2 and moved Alaska to Region 5. It also moved Nevada from Region 2 to Region 1.

NCUA spokeswoman Cherie Umbel said the change was needed because Region 2 had an especially heavy workload as a result of problems in Arizona and some other western states while handling the large number of credit unions in California, some of which have had problems.

Region 1 oversees credit unions in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Region 2 oversees credit unions in California, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

Region 5 encompasses credit unions in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
