The SBA has awarded SouthWest Federal Credit Union its 2009 Blaine Andrus Memorial award for the $147 million cooperative's dedication to Utah's small businesses.

SouthWest FCU received the award at the SBA Utah district office's annual lender recognition breakfast held in December. According to NCUA call report data, the CU had 46 outstanding SBA loans totaling $1.6 million as of last September. SouthWest Vice President of Business Services Curtis Anderson said the CU was able to boost its SBA lending activity in 2009 over 2008′s figures.

The SBA's recognition award is named for Andrus, a small business advocate, who worked at the agency's Utah district office until his death in December 2008. The St. George, Utah-based SouthWest serves more than 19,000 members.
