The Webinar business by and for credit unions is picking up steam at year-end.
A Montana vendor, Financial Education & Development Co. of Helena, claims there are now 23 leagues and associations representing 3,225 CUs that participated in 56 Webinars during 2009.
And the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association said it is joining a reported group of seven leagues in January signing up for the weekly online training sessions that cover a broad range of compliance topics from Reg. Z to bank secrecy.
CUNA said during 2009 it conducted 150 Webinars and 28 audio conferences, a 10% increase from a year ago and expects a similar jump in 2010.
"There was a time back several years ago when this market was overglutted and in 2007 slowed down, but it has now come back a little," said Phoenix attorney Eric North, who conducts both Webinars and on-site seminars on a range of legal topics including bankruptcy, privacy and third party contracts.
Rhonda Rumbaugh, assistant vice president and education head at PCUA in Harrisburg, said apart from its own Webinars, it has hired CUNA and other vendors for the viral offerings but decided to join the Montana network program, geared to CUs as another option for members. It is one more economy tool, she said.
Apparently reflecting the competitive nature of the business, officials of Financial Education in Helena declined to identify any of the reported seven new league clients citing a clampdown on publicity. The firm also has state bank associations with over 50,000 bankers participating in Financial Ed Webinars in 2008.
