Credit union donations supporting families of the victims of the Nov. 5 shooting at Fort Hood, Tex., have now climbed past $17,000, the Texas Credit Union League reported.

In its daily e-mail newsletter, the league reminded its members that the contributions "can help families make the recovery more manageable" but certainly the donations "will never be able to fill the void left behind after such an unfortunate development."

Contributions to the league's Fort Hood Support Fund are being routed through Texas Partners FCU of Killeen. Separately, Pentagon FCU, which has a branch on the base, has also been soliciting collections through its foundation along with the Defense Credit Union Council.
