The Iowa Credit Union Foundation has announced that it has $1.2 million available for Iowans wishing to use an individual development account to save for education, to buy a home or to purchase a vehicle to get to work or start a small business.

IDA's are are matched savings accounts where the savings of a participant is matched by a grant from another organization. ICUF announced that it has received almost $258,000 from the Assets for Independence program to fund its IDA effort.

The ICUF also announced that as of now, 18 Iowa based credit unions offer their members IDAs and that means credit union affiliated IDA programs are available in 91 of the state's 99 counties.
