A sweeping core system upgrade at Security Service Federal Credit Union is the centerpiece of a 10-year information technology strategy plan at Texas' largest credit union.
The recently completed project was one of the most sweeping ever at the $5.3 billion San Antonio-based institution and involved approximately 15,000 software modules interfacing with more than 65 applications through 10 application suites in the credit union's Systematics core processing system from FIS.
The project also included the efforts of 146 staffers from across the 700,000-member credit union's organization along with project management and consulting services from FIS, based in Jacksonville, Fla.

Included were improvements to service channel integration-including online, mobile and interactive voice response-with the core processing engine. The overall impact will be reduced maintenance costs, heightened security, faster speed to market with new products and enhanced ability to meet compliance regulations, FIS and SSFCU said.
The project went live July 4th weekend with no down time or loss of system availability to members, the credit union said.
"These latest enhancements will not only help reduce our application maintenance costs by eliminating the need for much of the customized code that has accumulated over the years but will also increase our competitiveness in the marketplace by improving our delivery of premium products and services and enabling our future growth for the next decade and beyond," said Jay Winslow, senior vice president and chief information officer at SSFCU.
