Neighbors Credit Union members between the ages of 13 and 19. Each person who wished to submit an entry was asked to write an essay and submit a list of extracurricular activities and academic achievements. All winners were chosen based on accuracy, overall quality of content, leadership skills, academics and properly meeting contest rules.

Credit Union ONE, Ferndale, Mich., presented the 2009 community scholar awards to six student members at a dinner held in their honor. Ryan Fisher was selected to receive the $2,500 scholarship. Blake Baca and Michael Henry were awarded $1,000 scholarships. Ryan Jones, Leah Wils-Owens and Adam Crachiola received $500 scholarships. These graduating high school seniors were chosen to receive the awards based on academics, community service and a written essay.

Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union, Clinton Township, Mich., presented a third scholarship opportunity through its "Adults Moving Forward" college scholarship program. The program grants three scholarships worth up to $2,000 each to adult, college student credit union members who are registered at a Michigan college, university, trade or vocational school, or accredited certification program.

Fiberglas Federal Credit Union, Newark, Ohio, selected three students to each receive a $1,000 scholarship. The winners were Mark Doles, Mitchell Harble and Bryan Metzger. The students were awarded at the credit union's annual meeting.

Alliance Credit Union, San Jose, Calif., announced the winners of its 13th annual Rose M. Ratka memorial scholarship. The winners were Conrad Egan, Danielle Boles and Monet Hardison. Each student was awarded a $2,000 scholarship to help complete studies at various universities. The scholarship program was developed to honor the late Rose M. Ratka who was president/CEO of the credit union from 1978 to 1996.

Unity One Credit Union, Fort Worth, Texas, named Cody Dyvig the recipient of the 2009 Bob Bennett memorial scholarship. He received a $1,000 to go towards his college expenses. Scoring was based on a completed application and an essay or video entry. This year's essay topic asked candidates to explain the difference between banks and credit unions.

Georgetown Kraft Credit Union, Georgetown, S.C., recognized five college-bound students as the recipients of the 2009 Georgetown Kraft Credit Union college scholarships. The winners were Thomas Brown, Samantha Connelly, Nicole Johnson, Caroline Stalvey and Elizabeth Wilson. Each was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. The recipients were chosen from 29 applicants based on their academic and extracurricular activities, community involvement and work and leadership experience.

Coventry Credit Union, Coventry, R.I., announced five winners of its 2009 scholarships. The winners were Shalini Shah, Alison Brousseau, Kayla Allen, Evan Nicholas and Jessica DeSimone. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship.

South Florida Educational Federal Credit Union, Miami, awarded 15 high school seniors with Hubert O. Sibley four-year Florida prepaid tuition scholarships. The scholarship is a full tuition annual program.

SELCO Community Credit Union, Eugene, Ore., awarded 13 children of its members with scholarships, and each received $1,500. Winners were chosen based on a combination of scholastic achievement and community involvement.
